Characters

Samus Aran

Samus Aran is the main protagonist of the Metroid Series. Samus is an ex-soldier of the Galactic Federation who turned into a galactic bounty hunter. Samus is described as a muscular woman who is 6 foot 3 inches tall and weighs 198 pounds without her Power Suit. Her Power Suit is a powered exoskeleton which protects her from most dangers she encounters and can be enhanced by power-ups collected during gameplay. Some key items that she uses on her Power Suit are: the Arm Cannon which fires different energy beams and charges a strong blast or launches a limited number of missiles, the Morph Ball which allows her to get through tight spots and use Bombs, and the Grappling Beam. Her Power Suit also aquires different jumping abilities that cause her to spin through the air.

Samus life began when she was a young girl on the mining colony of K-2L with her parents. Her hometown received a visit from the Chozo, a bird-like race. They were after something that Samus' colony was able to retrieve. Unfortunately, nobody gave the Chozo what they needed and they soon left. However, as the Chozo were there, Samus was able to befriend one of them and gain some valuable information that was taught to her plus an interesting friend. Samus befriended Pyonchi, a rabbit-like creature, with the help of one of the Chozo. Nobody predicted what was going to happen next. After the Chozo left, Space Pirates attacked Samus's colony. Her mother was killed protecting her while her father sacrificed himself to destroy the Space Pirates. The only Space Pirate that survived was Ridley.

Samus was raised by the Chozo on their home planet of Zebes. To survive the harsh conditions of the planet, Samus was injected with some of the Chozo DNA and given her Power Suit to protect her. Samus learned quite a bit on how to use her Power Suit while she lived with the Chozo. Once she became a teenage, she left the Chozo and joined the Galactic Federation. A lot of her stories take place during the games beginning with "Metroid: Zero Mission."

Ridley

Ridley is the primary villian throughout the Metroid Series. However, even though he is the primary villian, he doesn't always appear in each individual game. Anyways, Ridley is a draconic extraterrestrial who goes through many changes throughout each of the games. He has a high rank within the Space Pirates and usually leads the raids, including the one where Samus' parents were murdered when she was just a child.

Throughout the series, Ridley is often portrayed most of the time like a wild animal making screeches and other loud noises. His actions, however, are much more revealing and cunning. Despite having been destroyed numerous times by Samus, Ridley is always resurrected, thanks in equal part to Space Pirate engineering and his natural regenerative ability. This allows him to swiftly recover from what would otherwise be fatal wounds as long as he is able to consume a requisite amount of biomatter from his fallen adversaries.

Other Key Characters

Infant Metroid or "Baby" - The last metroid that was found on SR388. It hatched before Samus could destroy it and implanted that Samus was its 'Mother.' Unfortunately, the last metroid did not survive. For at the end of Super Metroid, Mother Brain kills it as it replenishes Samus' health giving her the powerful Hyper Beam.

Chozo - The word Chozo means bird-like creatures. These creatures were an ancient and highly advanced race of sage-like avian sentients that inhabited several planets in the cosmos. Samus met their race when they visit her homeland when she was just a child. They adopted her when her family was killed during a Space Pirate's raid. After using their technology to infuse their blood into Samus, the Chozo trained her to become a warrior of their people and gave her the Power Suit that she wears throughout her missions.

Kraid - This creature is a three-eyed green reptilian extraterrestrial. He is a high-ranking Space Pirate and may even be a leader of the group, as he is one of the prominent bosses throughout the series. Samus first incounters him during "Metroid."

Mother Brain - She is a cold and ill-tempered Artifical Intelligence created by the Chozo. However, she turned against them when the Space Pirates and Ridley invaded Zebes and saw the potential in the pirates. She decided that with helping them, she could bring true order to the universe by "resetting everything back to zero". Mother Brain is a recurring antagonist, and Samus fights her the first time during "Metroid."
